CONTEST TYPES OVERVIEW

Four Competition Formats,
One District

Each contest develops a distinct set of communication and leadership skills. Members are encouraged to enter the format that best matches their current development pathway — and to challenge themselves further each term.

International Speech

Deliver an original, carefully crafted prepared speech. Demonstrates research, structure, vocal variety, and persuasive delivery. The pathway to the World Championship of Public Speaking.

5–7 minute prepared speech

Evaluation

Listen to a prepared target speech and deliver a structured, constructive evaluation. Judges assess listening skills, analytical depth, feedback quality, and critique under time pressure.

Table Topics

Respond to an unexpected prompt without any preparation. Assessed on the ability to organise thoughts quickly, think on your feet, and deliver a coherent, engaging response under pressure.

1–2 minute impromptu response

Humorous Speech

Deliver an original, entertaining speech demonstrating comedic timing, platform presence, and the ability to connect authentically with an audience. Humour must be appropriate for all.
